Therapy Styles:
I use a variety of therapeutic approaches for creating a safe and collaborative environment. The goal is to overcome negative behavior patterns and expand personal freedom. My interactions with clients are enriched by my experiences as a Licensed Professional Counselor and my diverse background in the world of business. During the twenty-five years prior to becoming a counselor, I was a partner in an investment management firm, owner-manager of a personnel agency, professional commodity trader and member of the Chicago Board of Trade. I have a Bachelor of Arts in History from Stanford University and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College. Counseling sessions frequently incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques, strengths-based solution focus, motivational interviewing, and relevant insights from developmental psychology and contemporary neuroscience. Couples sessions explore systemic relational issues as well as identified areas of discord.

Areas of Expertise:
My sessions with clients are individualized and practical. I have extensive experience with issues related to personal finance (mismanagement, compulsivity, partnership conflicts) My expertise also includes couples therapy, alcohol abuse and drug dependency, depression/anxiety and navigation of life transitions.

Other information:

I have an unshakable belief in the resiliency of individual human potential. I have watched people become more empowered as a result of the therapeutic process ... and then create better lives for themselves and the people who are close to them.
